A winged horse from Greek mythology. The Pegasus was the mount of the hero Bellephron. Together they destroyed the Chimera. This flying horse gave him great agility to dodge the many blows from the Chimera. Later Bellephron thought that he was as great as the gods and rode to heaven on the back of Pegasus. The gods sent a gadfly to sting the tail of Pegasus. This caused the beast to jerk upwards and Bellephron fell to the Earth. He landed on a thorn bush which left him blind and disabled for the rest of his life.
