An 8 tailed reptile form the beliefs of the indigenous people of New Zealand. He guided the hero Tainmi on his voyage. In this respect he was a type of Taniwha or fairy creature that protects and helps people. Moko-Ika-Hiku-Waru lived in a deep pool and fed on the eels that swam there.
