The child of the mountain spirit Yama-Uba from Japanese folklore. Kintarou has supernatural strength. He lives among the monkeys and deer in the mountains. He features in the play Komochi Yamauba (1712). A man named Sakata Tokiyuki commits suicide and the oozing blood of his body is collected. This blood has enchanted powers which will cause someone to be filled with desire and vengeance. This blood is presented to the wife of Sakata, Yaegiri Tokiyuki. She travels to the mountains and transforms into Yama-Uba and gives birth to a son, Kintarou. He grows up to become a courage and skilful warrior of supernatural strength. He then fights the sinister Minamoto no Yorimitsu to avenge his father.
