A creature believed to inhabit the Pine Barrens in Southern New Jersey. It was a winged creatures which had hoofed hind legs and two small forearms. Its head is the shape of a horse. The Jersey Devil was first sighted in 1735 by Stephen Decatur who saw it flying in the air. He fired at the beast with his gun but the Jersey Devil flew on. The eldest brother of Napoleon, Joseph Bonaparte also saw the Jersey Devil on his hunting trips. A corpse of the beast was claimed to have been found in 1957 and in 1960 a hunting expedition was conducted rewarding $10,000 to anyone who caught the Jersey Devil.
