These were Giants of North America from the tales of the Maliseet Passamaquoddy tribe. They would talk humans and kill them to eat. They were originally once corpses that were brought back to life by witches. Once these living corpses ate two humans they would morph into Ice Giants. A hero called Glooscap was able to defeat the Ice Giants by dressing up as one and being welcomed into their territory. During one gathering, Glooscap performed a dance for entertainment. But this dance contained magic that caused the waters to rise. As the waters rose, Glooscap unleashed his spell which turned the Ice Giants into fish.
