An infant of Greek mythology that was half serpent and half human like a Merman. He was born from the god Vulcan when he tried to rape Athena. In the struggle, semen fell on her thigh which she wiped off with wool and flung it to earth which then transformed into Erichthonius. Athena put him in a box and gave him to one of the daughters of King Cecropes and told them not to look at him. However they disobeyed and opened the box. Screaming with disgust they ran and threw themselves off a cliff.
