King of the Gandharvas in Hindu mythology along with Tumburu and Visvavasu. Gandharvas are Centaur-like creatures with the upper-half of a human and the lower-half of a horse. They are in charge of the celestial soma of the gods. Chitra-Ratha was a magician and musician at the banquets of gods. He can be found hissing in woodland clearings singing and making music while dancing with Apsaras. The ascetic yogi Medhavi was moved by this music and left his spiritual practice to be fascinated by the dancing girl Manjugosha. Like the Greek Centaur Cheiron, he brought much civilisation to man.
