The Abonsam is a house-devil that lives in the settlements of Ghana. It causes a great deal of misfortune and problems. Each year a ceremony takes place to rid the world of evil spirits. Apparently the Abonsam hate noise and so prior to the festival there is four weeks of silence. This attracts the Abonsam into the village. When the ceremony begins thee is much noise- banging on drums signing, and gongs playing to rid the place of the Abonsam.
