European mythical creatures
173 creatures (and 43 alternative names) Hide alternative names
The 15th, 16th and 17th centuries gave rise to the age of exploration. The Europeans sought new worlds far beyond Europe and discovered many races of people and fabulous beasts of such bizarre description that their true nature of these creatures remains a mystery. Mermaids and weird water beasts were frequently spotted and documented by the new world explorers. The European section also includes 18th and 19th century myths with Town Giants, stories of Bogies to scare children and frightening Black Dogs.
